Justin Timberlake took a marine to her unit's annual ball Saturday night.
"I knew I would have an evening that I wouldn't forget... Something I could tell my friends about. What I didn't know was how moved I would be by the whole experience," he wrote.
Cpl. Kelsey De Santis had invited Timberlake through a YouTube video to the event a couple months ago, and Timberlake accepted.
But Timberlake said he was more nervous than De Santis at the event.
"I have to tell you, it's not every day that I meet a 23 year old girl and she's more worried about if I'm having fun or if I'm comfortable! It hit me all of a sudden that these were the type of people that look after us and our freedom... Humble, concerned for others before themselves..." he wrote on his blog. "This was the type of person our Marine Corps was building. I was really blown away."
De Santis was much more succinct in her comments.
"The ball was epic! Had a wonderful time," she tweeted after the event.
Timberlake got asked out by De Santis after he encouraged his "Friends With Benefits" co-star Mila Kunis to accept an admiring Marine's video invite to the upcoming Marine Corps Ball during an interview with FoxNews.com. FoxNews.com asked Kunis about the invitation during a "Friends With Benefits" press event.
“Have you seen this? Have you heard about this? You need to do it for your country,” Timberlake asked Kunis excitedly, before sending out a direct message to Sgt. Scott Moore. “I’m going to work on this, man. This needs to go down.”
After questioning her publicist if she knew about the invitation, the clearly flattered 27-year-old actress agreed.
“I’ll go, I’ll do it for you,” she said, turning to Timberlake. “Are you going to come?”
It turned out Timberlake was more than happy to accept his own invitation.
"I don't feel backed into a corner at all," Timberlake joked when asked by a reporter whether he would go. "I'll tell you what, I accept. But not because she shouted out one of my songs, which I do love ... and not because she had all those beefcake military guys behind her to try to intimidate me, although that probably would have worked by itself.
"I don't get asked out, ever, so I was very flattered by that," he said, calling it an "honor."
No word on whether Timberlake's girlfriend, Jessica Biel, approved of the evening.
Kunis and Sgt. Scott Moore's ball is later this week.
