Charlie Sheen will make his return to television in a sitcom titled "Anger Management," which is based on the 2003 film of the same name, Entertainment Weekly reported Monday.

Sheen will play "a mild-mannered, non-confrontational man" who is "ordered to attend group anger management sessions led by a therapist who could probably use some anger management himself."

The former "Two and a Half Men" star said he does not personally relate to the subject matter, but chose "Anger Management" as his next project because it has a "great concept" and will afford him "a certain amount of creative control" and the opportunity to work with producer Joe Roth, with whom he worked on the movies "Major League" and "Young Guns," the report said.

Lionsgate Television Group will produce the series alongside Revolution Studios and distributor Debmar-Mercury. Sheen reportedly signed a deal with Lionsgate for a new sitcom in June, but the studio declined to comment on the deal at the time.

"We always look for series ideas that are noisy, accessible and relevant," Lionsgate Television Group President Kevin Beggs said in a statement. "Charlie Sheen in 'Anger Management' takes those criteria to a whole new level and we are thrilled to be in business with him."

The new series has not yet been picked up by a network. When Sheen's deal with Lionsgate was announced, cable network TBS was described as the frontrunner in a bidding war to air the show, but TBS denied the reports, saying, "TBS is not in discussions for a possible project with Charlie Sheen."

Sheen was fired from "Two and a Half Men" in March after blasting the show's creator, Chuck Lorre, and network executives, and has since been replaced by former "That '70s Show" star Ashton Kutcher.
