Folk singer Jewel and her professional bull rider husband Ty Murray have welcomed a son, Kase Townes Murray.

The couple's first child was born at 7:00pm local time Monday evening, weighing in at seven pounds, six ounces, their representative told People on Tuesday.

"Ty and I are so pleased to welcome our new baby boy into the world," Jewel said. "We are overcome with happiness -- it really is as great as everyone told us it would be -- better even!"

The "You Were Meant For Me" singer, who had struggled to conceive, was hit by a fire truck in March at five months pregnant. Medical tests found that she and her unborn child were unharmed and she was released from the hospital a day after the crash.

The couple spent the spring decorating the nursery at their 2,200-acre ranch in Stephenville, Texas, and Jewel, 36, has also been working on a new children's album, "The Merry Goes 'Round," which is due out in August.

Grammy-nominated Jewel and 41-year-old Murray -- a nine-time world champion rodeo cowboy -- wed at a beach ceremony in the Bahamas in 2008.
