Hollywood is rife with casting couch horror stories, with several successful actresses coming forward recently to reveal the terrifying moments when people in power attempted to abuse their position by offering jobs in return for sexual favors.
But actress Brooke Shields, who has been in the industry since she was a teenager, said that she was lucky enough to not be approached with those kinds of offers. And she tells Pop Tarts she thinks it was most likely because she was a virgin.
“I was always way too young, and I was forever a virgin so no one wanted that responsibility. So I didn't get near the couch,” Shields told FOX411’s Pop Tarts column at the Propel Zero to 1000 Dog Walking event in Malibu over the weekend, hosted by her pal Cindy Crawford, adding that she was fortunate enough to be given jobs and rarely had to go through the wrenching audition process.
The now 45-year-old, who’s first major movie role at the age of 12 was playing a child prostitute in Louis Malle’s 1978 “Pretty Baby,” revealed to Health Magazine a few years ago that she didn’t lose her virginity until she was 22, mostly because she was insecure with her physical body.
And when it comes to body image issues, Cindy Crawford, one of the world’s most hailed supermodels, also struggled with body image issues when she was younger.
“I certainly felt pressure to fit the clothes and to stay thin, but when I was modeling we were allowed to have normal healthy bodies. It wasn't like it is today,” she told us. “And even the thin models of my time like Kate Moss; that's just her body. She's naturally super thin. I saw her eat burgers it's not like she was starving herself or anything like that.”
And naturally, the 45-year-old beauty is a little anxious about the threat of losing her (very, very good) looks with age.
“I don't think aging is fun for anyone and watching those changes, but that's why it's important to have balance in your life and other things that you're focused on,” Crawford said. “But at the same time it's been a great vehicle for me to have a career and lifestyle.”
