Luxury fashion house Dior said Friday that it suspended chief designer John Galliano, pending an assault investigation in Paris.
The news came after police sources said they briefly detained the British designer late Thursday over allegations of assault and making anti-Semitic remarks.
Galliano allegedly verbally accosted a couple sitting on a cafe terrace in Paris' fashionable Marais district.
"For the moment, we don't know what led him to address the couple," a police source said.
Police detained Galliano, and he was found to have been drinking alcohol.
The designer was released pending charges being filed.
