Spanish actor Javier Bardem has scored an Oscar nomination in the “Best Actor” category for his role in the Mexican film “Biutiful,” which was also nominated for “Best Foreign Film.”

The film is up against other productions such as "Hors la Loi" (Algeria), "Incendies" (Canada), "In A Better World" (Denmark), "Dogtooth" (Greece), "Confessions" (Japan), "Life, above All" (South Africa) and "Simple Simon" (Sweden).

Both Javier Bardem and "Biutiful" have been favorites in other awards. Bardem was recently nominated for a BAFTA award for his role as Uxbal, a dying Barcelona street hustler in "Biutiful." The movie was also a top candidate at the Goya awards, landing eight nominations.

The 83rd annual Academy Award ceremony will be held on Feb. 27, at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles, Calif.
