The original "Charlie's Angels." (ABC)

'Charlie's Angels" is one step closer to returning to the small screen.

ABC -- home of the original series -- has ordered a pilot for an update on the female crime fighting show, according to Entertainment Weekly.

The updated version of the show that introduced "jiggle TV" will abandon its original Los Angeles setting in favor of Miami's equally sunny climes.

The new "Angels" would be written by "Smallville's" Miles Millar and Al Gough and produced by Drew Barrymore (who starred in the big screen adaptation) and production company partner Nancy Juvonen. Original series producer Leonard Goldberg is also on board.

This isn't the first time the network has attempted to make the series, though -- before getting attached to "Lost," Carlton Cuse worked on an "Angels" remake that didn't go anywhere.

Another attempt at remaking the series also fizzled out in 2009.

Back then, it was a candidate for the 2010-2011 season, with Josh Friedman ("Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles") handling writing and producing duties (alongside Barrymore and Goldberg), but a pilot was never produced.
