Celebrities have glam squads to keep them picture perfect at all times.
Most of us do not.
So just in time for your New Year's Eve beautification rituals, we bring you the next best thing: the stars' secrets, straight from the mouths of those who created them.
1. Winona Ryder's Striking Red Pout
For the premiere of "Black Swan" at the Toronto Film Festival, Celebrity Makeup Artist Nick Barose wanted to play up Winona Ryder's classic beauty with a striking red lip.
To create the look, he lined her lips with a soft nude tone pencil and then applied Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Lipstick #131 directly from the tube to make the red pop. He finished by applying YSL's Touche Eclat #3, a multi-purpose luminizing pen, around the edges to create a nicer backdrop for the color.
TIP: If you have skin fair skin like Winona, Barose recommends using a shimmery pink blush to add color to the face and avoid looking washed out.
2. Kim Kardashian's Subtle Yet Sexy Eyes
At the 2010 Cosmetic Executive Women Beauty Awards, Kim Kardashian showcased a softer, more feminine version of her signature seductive smokey eye.
To create the look, Kim's makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic swept Giella's EYE M GLAM highlighter on her lids and the inner corners of her eyes to brighten and open them. He lined the top lids with Lancome's Art Liner, extending it out and up past the eye.
Then, he applied Sephora Collection's Flashy Liner in Flashy Brown on the inner rim of her eyes, smudging it a bit along the lash line.
To finish, he curled her lashes and applies two coats of Smashbox Hyperlash Mascara in black to both the top and bottom lashes.
3. A Healthy Flush like Katie Holmes
To give Katie gorgeous rosy cheeks for the Calvin Klein show during New York Fashion Week, Mark Cosmetics Makeup Artist Mai Quynh first created a clean canvas using moisturizer, foundation, concealer and powder to hide blemishes and even out Katie's complexion.
Next, she dusted mark Bronze Pro Bronzing Powder in Pro Golden onto Katie's cheeks and forehead and applied Good Glowing Mosaic Blush in Hush Baby to the apples of her cheeks using an angled brush.
4. Carrie Underwood's Red Carpet Hair Secret
To get a Carrie-inspired heal treatment, RUSK Creative Stylist Sherri Jesse suggests applying the rich, creamy conditioner to clean, damp hair and combing through with a wide toothed comb to evenly distribute. Then pop on a plastic cap and allow the nourishing ingredients to penetrate into the hair shaft for 15 minutes.
Rinse completely and you'll see instantly softer, shinier red-carpet ready hair!
5. Jennifer Hudson's Luminous Complexion
To illuminate Jennifer Hudson's complexion for a photo-shoot to show off her newly slimmed figure, Celebrity Makeup Artist Sam Fine applied CoverGirl's Natural Hue Mineral Bronzer on the outer perimeter of her face to warm the skin and create halo of a glow (Sam recommends always using a bronzer that is just one shade darker than your natural skin tone).
For a pop of color, he finished the look by adding Cargo's Matte Blush in Laguna onto the cheeks.
6. Ombre Hair
Celebrities like Drew Barrymore, Jessica Biel and Rachel Bilson have all been rocking the Ombre trend, where hair color transitions from dark to light starting at the root.
To get the look without a trip to the salon, Celebrity Hairstylist Umberto Savone recommends choosing an at-home kit that is one shade darker than your natural hair color.
When coloring, concentrate on the roots and then lightly swipe the color down the stands to ensure a gradual, lighter color change. Then, leave your hair alone for a while because this style works best when it’s grown in.
