Brandy is currently competing against Bristol Palin for this season’s “Dancing With the Stars” crown, but it turns out that having been a young mom herself, the R&B starlet would really like to spend some bonding time with the daughter of Alaskan Gov. Sarah Palin away from the lights and action.

"I would love to give Bristol parenting advice, but she hasn't really asked for any yet. Bristol is doing a really great job, and she also has a mom to help her along the way,” Brandy told Pop Tarts at the launch of Ubisoft’s “Just Dance 2” in Los Angeles this week. “But I would really love to give her advice, and share my experience with her. I was twenty-three when I had my daughter, so it's tough raising a child when at the end of the day; it's one of the best gifts I could ever get. It keeps you on your toes, because you have to set an example for them to learn.”

Speaking of being on her toes, the 31-year-old said that the quick step is her favorite dance so far, and defended the judges, who have come under harsh criticism, particularly from eliminated contestant Michael Bolton, who demanded that Bruno Tonioli apologize after saying that Bolton “danced really badly” and offered up "the worst jive in 11 seasons."

“I try not to judge them. I just try to stay focused on what they do. I try and take the critiques they've given me, and try to apply them to the dances I have each week,” Brandy continued. “I can understand why people think that (they’re too harsh) but I think at the end of the day, their intention is to make us better.”

And while she doesn’t feel that athletes have an advantage going into the competition despite their strength and stamina, Brandy does think guys get the easier end of the deal.

"I think anybody who signs up to do this show has to overcome a lot of emotions and face nerves and all the same things. For them to have the courage to go out there and do their thing, it's just as fair,” she added. “But the boys don’t have to do as much as the girls do... nobody wants to see them do a split or a turn or be picked up... "
