Jackson's Chimp Just 'Hangin' Around' Florida Sanctuary

With Michael Jackson gone, concern has grown in the past few days over the whereabouts of his beloved chimpanzee Bubbles. Luckily, it turns out Bubbles is alive and well at a private Florida primate sanctuary, PEOPLE reported.

Living at the Center for Great Apes in Wauchula, Florida since March 2005, Bubbles, 26, has spent the past four years out of the public spotlight in the company of six other chimps. PEOPLE said the primate enjoys eating sweet potatoes and listening to guitar music, perhaps an echo back to his old days “moonwalking” with Jackson in the 80s.

“He’s a very sweet and nice chimp, he really is,” Center director Patti Ragan told PEOPLE.

Bubbles is not aware of Jackson’s death. "He's been his usual self, interacting with friends, eating well, taking cover when it rains," Ragan told PEOPLE.

It is unknown whether Bubbles will receive support in Jackson’s will, but the Center does obtain public donations to cover costs. Anyone can also “adopt” Bubbles for a year — $10,000 to become an exclusive “parent” as well as enjoy an overnight stay at the sanctuary, the Center reports on their website.
