Cher Dismisses GOP as Party of 'Rich, Born-Again Christians'

Cher may be know for her performances in music, TV and film, but she also can be political — and not a big fan of Republicans, either.
The Oscar-winning actress and Grammy-winning singer recently said that life while Republicans were in control in Washington almost “killed” her, adding that she can’t understand why anyone would ever want to be a member of the GOP.
Cher, who supported Barack Obama in the election, told CNSNews.com, "I just think he is totally the right person at this time in our history. His intelligence is so great and his spirit is so great, I believe he will be able to do as much if not more that anyone else could possibly do."
She wasn't quite so generous to Republicans.
“You know what? I try to be charitable and there are some really good Republicans, but I just don’t understand how anyone would want to be a Republican," Cher told CNSNews.com. "If you’re poor, if you’re any kind of minority – gay, black, Latino, anything. If you’re not a rich, born-again Christian, I don’t get it."
Don’t remember who Cher is? She is known for her trademark low, alto voice. Her fame began in 1965 as the female half of "Sonny & Cher" with her then-husband, Sonny Bono. Cher's entrance into the world of film won her an Oscar for her performance in 1987’s “Moonstruck.” Her most recent accolade is a Grammy for her 1998 solo album titled "Believe."
