Michelle, Malia and Sasha Obama Ignite a Fashion Frenzy

Isabel Toledo is working around the clock to create a low-priced knockoff of the yellow Inauguration Day suit she designed for Michelle Obama.

J. Crew’s phones have been ringing off the hook as moms across the country try to get the colorful coats Malia and Sasha Obama wore to see their dad sworn in as president of the United States. (You can stop calling; they're not available yet.)

The verdict is definitely in: the Obamas are fashion superstars.

Especially Michelle.

"Michelle Obama is a new fashion icon. She is accessible and stylish. She is 'everywoman,'" Stephanie Soloman, Bloomingdale's vice president for fashion direction, tells Foxnews.com. "She has fashion flair and the ability to wear an outfit so that her personality shines through. Clothes do not wear her, she wears the clothes. And her choice of new and up-and-coming American designers is a real boost to the entire American fashion industry."

Kate Ciepluch, fashion director at online retailer Shopbop.com, agrees. “Since Michelle Obama has entered the public eye, she has graced us with a style that is timeless and bold. She isn't afraid to wear bright colors and prints, but sticks to sophisticated, chic silhouettes. She is definitely setting the right tone as a fashion icon."

Like Jacqueline Kennedy before her, Michelle Obama takes style chances and succeeds, says Carol Han, executive fashion director at Stylecaster.com.

“Since she’s been in the public eye, she has never once failed to look perfectly put together and stylish, and she has a definitive eye for new talent," Han notes. "She’s worn Jason Wu [who designed her Inaugural Ball gown] and Thakoon, both fashion industry darlings who happen to be rising up-and-comers.”

So start sewing faster, Isabel Toledo. You could be going through a lot of fabric and thread in the next four years!
