Time to Rename the GOP the Reagan Party

Our fraying political system might best be served by the GOP renaming itself the Reagan Party, hewing closely to the principles outlined by Reagan in 1977 when he began what was in effect his government in exile, and allow its more liberal members to form a third party.

Conservative Movement Real Winner In Rush Football Flap

The real winner in the brouhaha that led to him being excluded from the deal may be the conservative movement itself which came very close to losing the full attention of one of its strongest leaders.

History Reminds Us That Jimmy Carter Doesn't Fight Fair

When it comes to former President Carter, he may want to preface any lectures for his fellow citizens on race and civility with the sort of preamble that alcoholics give at Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, something like, "Hello, I'm Jimmy Carter and I've used race to divide people and have been uncivil towards politicians."

    Someone Is Lying...

When it comes to the health care debate, there is simply no way that both sides can be right. Someone may very well be lying and it's up to the American people to figure out who is doing it -- Republicans or Democrats.

    Novak, Hewitt and the Future

Robert Novak, who owned up to his biases and didn't pretend to be objective is the model for the future of journalism. Don Hewitt will be remembered as part of a dying breed.

    The Lessons of Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson's death is a good time for us to step back from both the man and his work and remind ourselves of our values.

    Alaska's Wild Card

Sarah Palin could very well become an unstoppable cultural and political force -- one part Oprah, one part Ronald Reagan but she's not there yet.

O'Reilly Is Right -- The GOP Needs a Face

On "The O'Reilly Factor" last night guest Dick Morris somehow found a way to disagree with an obvious observation capably posed by the show's host: Doesn't the GOP need a messenger? No, Morris implausibly argued back, it was simply enough to oppose Obama.

What the Media Missed About Arlen Specter's Switch and Reagan's Big Tent

In all of the punditry that has accompanied Arlen Specter's departure from the Republican party, none is more curious -- or inaccurate -- than the assertion that this housecleaning of liberal Republicans from the party is somehow a departure from Ronald Reagan's philosophy of having a "big-tent" party, i.

Miss California USA Agrees With Obama and Elton John on Gay Marriage

Miss California USA, Carrie Prejean, doesn't agree with the notion of gay marriage. Now, according to some, that makes her a bad person. Asked by judge Perez Hilton about the issue at the Miss USA pageant, Prejean replied:

"We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite.

Obama Sends a Clear Message to America's Allies: You Are On Your Own

Diehard fans of President George W. Bush make a habit of reminding the rest of us that his presidency was successful because America was never attacked on our soil after 9/11. This is a smart argument to make of course, since, absent omniscience, it's impossible to refute.

Molly Jenson On 'Red Eye with Greg Gutfeld' Thursday Night

Greg Gutfeld and I got our start together blogging for The Huffington Post when it launched a few years back and I can remember spending many evenings hunched over the computer reading his stuff, sometimes with tears in my eyes from laughing so hard.

Get Ready America, Here Comes Generation-R

Traditionally, a generation is thought to be somewhere around 33 years, which would make 2012 ground zero for the arrival of the Reagan Generation or Gen-R in American politics--that is those who grew up steeped in the politics, personality and culture of America's 40th president, a man who began his successful campaign for president in 1979.

A Dangerous Game of Chicken: The President vs. the Market

My stockbroker finally convinced me to get out of the market. I was hanging on to the old adage that what goes down must eventually come up. I still agree with that, but I think it could be a decade or more before recovery happens.
