    Nobel Shocker!

The Nobel Committee often uses the prize to promote world peace as well as reward it. -- I hope this Nobel Peace Prize spurs the president on to greatness and peace.

    A Brilliant Marketing Move

All the carping we've been hearing about lighting up the Empire State Building in Chinese colors disregards what is a simple marketing decision made by a privately-owned company. These kinds of decisions are what makes our capitalist country great!

    Carter Doesn't Get It

These attacks on President Obama are not racist but it is symptomatic of a country that has gone awry with anger and divisiveness.

Obama's Critics Need a Reality Check

What is wrong with giving our children a sense that we are united, that we operate as one country and that we have a leader who wants to talk to them?

Ted Kennedy: At Bottom a Humble Man

What always struck me about Senator Kennedy was despite his internal demons and legislative achievements he remained a humble man.

Time to Take a Page From Ross Perot's Playbook

Obama needs to stop using surrogates, stop the town hall meetings, cut out the press conferences and talk directly to the American people.

    Where's the Beef?

Talk is cheap -- the nuts and bolts of the G8 needs to be about money -- and it doesn't look like that is going to happen any time soon.

An All-American Day In a Special Place

I am proud to spend my Fourth of July at the Marsha Barbour Center in Mississippi -- a center that began out of the devastation of Hurricane Katrina -- I can't imagine celebrating any place else!

Object to ABC's White House Visit? Speak Up!

ABC is a broadcast network, licensed by the FCC and therefore responsible to the public. They know they must provide the other side of the argument. However, when they do it is the issue. If you, the public, don't like what ABC News is doing, it is your right to complain to the FCC.

The Is No Connection Between the Timing of the Sotomayor Announcement and the Trouble In North Korea

Many analysts feel that President Obama tried to change the subject from North Korea with his Supreme Court nomination. Nothing could be further from the truth. The Court nomination took place during the Congressional recess because it is much more difficult to grandstand with an opposing view and have all of the Capitol Hill press corps ready to take down every word and body language movement .

    Obama Disappoints on Detainee Policy

First, some truth in advertising. My brother, Michael Ratner is President of The Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR). CCR has been in the forefront of the battles to bring legal representation to the detainees in Guantanamo.

The Mostly Bad --and Some Good News About Your Credit Cards

The best news is that we actually have a bill that addresses some consumer issues in the credit card industry. The bad news is still very bad news: the lobbyists were able to get their grimy paws on it, and there was no compromise allowed on capping interest rates.

Obama at Notre Dame -- Let the Listening On Abortion Begin

For the first time in three decades an American politician is willing to start a conversation that others have avoided since Rove vs. Wade was decided by the Supreme Court in 1972. President Obama made a politically fearless but a politically high-risk move by accepting the invitation to speak at one of America's great Catholic universities --Notre Dame.

    Obama's Decision -- Not a Pretty Picture?

Wow, I guess the Obama administration is learning that campaigning is not the same as governing. Photos of the alleged abuse of prison detainees were supposed to be released later this month but now the president has decided not to go through with the plan after all.

    The Rebranding of Bristol Palin

In a clear bid to help Mama rise higher in the Republican Party, Bristol Palin spent yesterday in New York City to help promote Teen Pregnancy Awareness Day. I would not have such a jaundiced eye about her proclamation had she not been singing a different tune just last February when she said that abstinence was "not realistic at all."

    Messengers Muddle Obama's Message

Let there be no secret: I am in the 60+% who thinks President Obama is doing a good job for our country. When Bill Clinton left office, members of the White House Press Corps were sad. No, we were not sad because we are the "liberal press establishment;" we were sad because watching him as a politician was an amazing experience.
