Who needs a professional? The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are reportedly considering releasing family photos of new baby Prince George instead of sitting for the traditional official portrait.

A palace source told People magazine that the amatuer photos would be shared on social media outlets like Twitter and the couple's official website.

"The whole point of these photos is that as many people have access to them who need to and we will find the easiest way of doing that," the source added.

Prince George's birth was announced on an easel in front of Buckingham Palace in a nod to tradition, but also on the official Clarence House Twitter feed.

Should the couple opt for photos taken by Kate, it wouldn't be the first time the public has viewed Kate's photography. A series of the photos she snapped during an official visit to Borneo were shared by the palace last year.

Kate's first painted by artist Paul Emsley, was met with mixed reviews when it was unveiled in January.
