The Legends Football League might be relatively new, but that doesn't mean it's any less exciting — or that it's female players are any less disciplined or determined — than any other professional leagues and athletes.
For proof, look no further than Oxygen's new reality series "Pretty. Strong," which documents the lives of the incredibly tough women who make up the Chicago Bliss football team.
"God, I love football," says Alli Alberts, a safety and receiver for the Bliss. "I wanted to join the [Legends Football League] because I saw it on TV and I was like, 'I'm better than those girls, and I want to play football.' And I had already been playing flag football, so I knew I could do it," she tells FNM.
In addition to her professional life, Alberts says Oxygen's "Pretty. Strong" follows the private lives of the Bliss, detailing their relationships, their work, and sometimes even their detractors.
"The misconceptions about our league are that we're out there just to play some powder-puff football, or we all want to be models, or something stupid like that, which is absolutely untrue," says Alberts. "All of us play the game because we love to play football, and we're competitive athletes, and this really means something to us. And we train hard and we play hard," she adds.
"[It's] all about female football players and our lives outside the game, in the game, and our lives around each other … It's really a show about empowering women, and doing whatever you want to do."
