Janis Joplin’s 1965 Porsche 356 C 1600 has spent the past twenty years enshrined with her memory in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but now it’s heading to the auction block.

The car, which was purchased by the singer in 1968 and promptly given a psychedelic paintjob by her band’s roadie, Dave Richards, is scheduled to be displayed and offered for sale at Sotheby’s Driven by Disruption exhibition and auction December in New York.

The convertible is currently owned by Joplin’s family, who restored it in the 1990’s before loaning it to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Her sister told Reuters that Janis drove the car all over San Francisco and Los Angeles and “wherever Janis went in the car, her fans recognized it. When she parked it and returned, there was always at least one note under the wipers."

Sotheby’s predicts that the winning bid will be in the $400,000 range, which, according to the Hagerty Price Guide, is about two to four times more than the car would be worth without its unique history.
