Motorola has had a busy week. In addition to the new Moto E and the 4G LTE version of the Moto G being revealed, the company also quietly announced a Ferrari-branded special edition of the Moto G. However, currently the phone is only mentioned in the Mexican press release, suggesting it won’t be getting an international release just yet.
What are we missing out on? The Moto G may be a great little phone, but certainly in its standard form, it’s not exactly exciting to look at. The Moto G Ferrari Edition does change that, primarily due to the cool Kevlar rear panel. Motorola has been using Kevlar on its Droid phones for some time, promoting it as a durable alternative to plastic. It looks great in the pictures.
Naturally, there’s a Ferrari crest on the back of the phone, and a Ferrari logo below the screen on the front. The speaker grill and the camera lens both have red highlights to give the phone a more “sporty” look. The press release says the phone comes with exclusive Ferrari content, which we take means wallpapers and ringtones, plus a range of Ferrari accessories will be sold separately.
The Ferrari Edition is based on the 16GB version of the Moto G, but it’s not clear whether it’s the 4G LTE model or the standard 3G phone. Sadly, and not in keeping with the Ferrari name, the phone’s technical specs remain unchanged. This means the 4.5-inch screen has a 720p resolution, and there’s a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor running the show.

Motorola will charge around $390 for the Moto G Ferrari Edition, after converting over the local price, which is nearly twice the cost of a standard Moto G. Whether it’s worth the extra cash depends on your devotion to the Italian marque.
