The Senate will soon consider whether an amendment attached to the Dodd-Frank law by Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) will be allowed to stay in place, resulting in price controls on debit transactions. The Durbin amendment is already causing free checking to disappear and banks to add consumer fees for debit cards, and when it goes final it could devastate small banks and credit unions.

Proposed EPA mandates would serve as an unprecedented power grab over much of the U.S. economy. It would immediately impose costly new regulations that would lead to massive job losses and succeed in making U.S. businesses far less competitive. Congress never gave the EPA the power to pursue these job-killing regulations.

Unelected regulators are usurping the legislative power that the people, in the Constitution, granted to Congress. Just as judicial tyranny (judges usurping legislative power) has been a major and well-founded concern of activists for decades, Congress must step in and stop this regulatory tyranny.
