This weekend, we lost many special operators in Afghanistan. Whether it happened due to the Taliban or mechanical failure, it doesn’t matter how they were killed. What matters is that they are gone and that they have families of their own. Their families need assistance, they need comfort, and they need assurance that their sons, brothers, and or teammates will never be forgotten.

President Barack Obama signed the newly released 2011 Strategy to Combat Transnational Organized Crime on July 19th. Strategically, this plan appears appropriate considering the gravity of transnational organized criminal activity around the world. Unlike the 2011 National Strategy for Counter Terrorism which completely left out terrorist entities and rogue regimes operating inside South and Central America, this newly released strategy appears impressive until one observes recent U.S. activities which counters everything written within.

Reports have emerged demonstrating U.S. funding the Taliban--the very enemy which our best and brightest have been fighting in Afghanistan since 2001. This should be no surprise to many. In May, Fox News reported similar activities of funding these Pashto insurgents through Pakistan. The article compared and contrasted the Afghan National Police and Afghan insurgent’s pay scales.

Terrorism is not necessarily about maiming and or killing others. Its true goal is achieved through instilling fear. Terrorists in Mumbai have already succeed in creating greater fear.
