The Pentagon is preparing to provide military support to French forces in their new fight against rebel militants in Northern Mali. The U.S. is considering a range of options to including sending cargo aircraft to lift more French ground troops into Mali, providing air refueling tankers for French air combat patrols, and to offer intelligence gleaned from aerial surveillance.

The White House is not considering any option that would leave more than 10,000 American troops in Afghanistan beyond 2014, a senior administration official and a senior military source told Fox News -- despite reports that the administration could leave a much larger footprint after the deadline for handing over security to the Afghans.
