The violence is getting worse in Syria: At least 5,000 people dead already including hundreds of children and medical supplies are running out. There’s Thomas Friedman’s wonderful Arab Spring of Democracy for you. All we have to do to end the misery is get President Bashir Assad out of power according to Friedman and company: Easy, right? What British Prime Minister David Cameron and French President Nicolas Sarkozy have done in Libya is far more than just topple Muammar Qaddafi. They have just shown that the cautious, focused and wise policies of President Reagan work as well in the Middle East in 2011 as they did 30 years ago.
